CORALINE HANDCRAFTED BOOK COVER

Bringing the spine chilling story of Coraline alive through a creative, and hand crafted cover design.

“Coraline” has always been one of my favorite movies and books. I started out my process by listing significant and important imagery. The audience of “Coraline” is young children ranging from 10 and up, who are interested in the horror book genre. The major challenge I faced was my ambitious decision to sew the title of the book into the cover. It took several attempts to get the title to be as legible as it needed it to be. It was the right decision, because it created an intriguing cover and added texture which fits extremely well with the symbolism of the book. As part of the limitations for this assignment, the book had to be completely hand crafted. I struggled making the body copy as neat as I would have liked. Sewing into the book meant I had to be careful and tedious with the stitching, so I did not ruin the other elements of the design.
